As part of the World Tourism Day 2026 celebrations at Insight Resort Ahangama, several sustainability initiatives were launched, including an experimental coastal restoration project focused on addressing sea erosion.
The project involves planting Muhudu Binthamburu, commonly known as Beach Morning Glory, Goat’s Foot Vine, or Railroad Vine a coastal plant that naturally grows along sandy shorelines.
As a beachfront property with a beautiful coastline, Insight Resort Ahangama experiences the impact of stronger sea conditions during the Southwest Monsoon season, when rough seas can affect the beach and coastal area.
As an experimental initiative, the resort is exploring the use of this naturally occurring coastal vegetation as part of a long-term, nature-based approach to protecting and maintaining the shoreline.
The initiative was launched with the participation of Prof. Sevvandi Jayakody, Ms. Rapti Dirckze, Sustainable Consultant at Insight Resort Ahangama, Mr. Kasun de Silva, Resort Manager, and members of the Insight Resort team.
The vision is simple: work with nature to protect the coastline, reduce the impact of erosion, and preserve the beauty of the beach for the future
