Bentota each , also known as Ventura beach is a long and wide beach located in the Galle District of the Southern Province of Sri Lanka. It is approximately 65 kilometers (40 mi) south of Colombo and 56 kilometers (35 mi) north of Galle. This beach is characterized by stretches of golden sand, swaying palm trees, and crystal clear blue waters, creating a relaxing and picturesque atmosphere.
Bentota beach is located just south of the Bentota river mouth – which due to the peninsula behaves more like a lagoon (it is year round wave-free). It was amongst the first planned tourist developments in the island, and was always meant to be ‘spacious and family friendly’. Hence it is one of the rare beaches where no restaurants (and shacks) are allowed except those of the about seven main beachside hotels; there are still plenty of independent restaurants but a bit away from the beach.
North to the river and close to the estuary is Moragolla beach. It’s another wide beach with blue waters which is lesser crowded than bentota beach but equally impressive. (sell below map for location).
